Hip Activation Exercise for Back and Leg Pain

04/01/2018

The gluteus muscles are important for support of the hip and movement of the pelvis on the spine. Unfortunately, we have the societal norm of sitting all the time (driving, working, waiting rooms) to thank for these muscles getting "turned off" or deactivated, and therefore being a big contributor to back and hip pain.

Bridging and other glute activation exercises where the knees are bent are good, but do not translate as functionally into standing activities where the knee is straight, and the leg and torso are in alignment. Here is a great glute firing exercise that translates much more directly into standing activity, and helps reduce back pain!
